OPENING RECEPTION: THURSDAY, NOV. 10, 6 - 8 pm

McClain Gallery is pleased to present Clockworks by Texas-based artists Jeff Shore and Jon Fisher in our adjacent west gallery space. The exhibition is being shown in conjunction with Sculpture Month Houston and the artists will be in attendance at the opening reception.

Shore and Fisher have been collaborating since 2002 to create performative works that combine kinetic devices, technology, imagery and sound-production. They merge their individual expertise in painting, electrical engineering and music composition to construct electromechanical sculptures and immersive installations.

Clockworks is comprised of a series of self-contained sculptural mechanisms that also function together as a multidimensional soundscape. The artists have motorized revolving cylinders of numbers from retro flip clocks to synchronize with a self-generated soundtrack. These animated works subvert the traditional function of the clock mechanism, to keep real-time and in a related fashion, viewers reflect on the passage of time, the experience of moving images, and the present moment.

Jeff Shore lives and works in Houston and earned his BFA from the University of North Texas, Denton. Jon Fisher lives and works in Dripping Springs and received a BM from the University of North Texas and completed both his MM and DM from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. Their most recent work, entitled Drip Machine, was installed at the Blaffer Museum’s downtown satellite location. Solo exhibitions include Trailer (2014) and Reel to Reel at McClain Gallery (2011) and at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, MO (2009). Reel to Reel also traveled to Clementine Gallery, NY; Weatherspoon Art Museum at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro; and the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Scottsdale, AZ.
